New approaches to security

During the recent annual ENISA forum, recent security trends were analyzed, now seen as an integral aspect of data protection.

The analysis of large amounts of data from logs, which constitutes a difficult challenge for system administrators, can be facilitated by the use of machine learning algorithms, such as neural networks, which are able to identify anomalies with respect to configurations usual “internalized” by the systems.

On the other hand, cyber attacks are not the only problem in a context of increasing surveillance. An approach to privacy by extreme design is to make the data useful for processing but not traceable to specific people through the use of algorithms of real anonymization, and not simple pseudonymisation, now under study.
